3.01 - Where do you have projects? We currently plant trees in Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Colombia, France, India, Kenya, Madagascar, Nicaragua, Peru, Spain, Tanzania, Thailand, United States. We also are working on adding new projects in more than 70 new locations. In details: From our Projects list, you can use our map to easily spot where you can plant. Our active projects, with green dots, are where you can fund trees now. Our future projects, with red dots, are projects we look to make available to fund in the future.

3.02 - How Tree-Nation selects projects and what is the process? We look for projects with a significant impact to fight climate change, restore biodiversity and help local communities. In details: We identify 3 ways to fight climate change and a large range of essential causes projects can support: Direct: Projects directly fighting climate change with a strong focus on capturing CO2 emissions. Those projects are often situated in tropical areas (for ideal conditions) and include fast growing species.

3.03 - Can I plant trees in a specific country where Tree-Nation has no open project? If you wish to plant trees in a region/country that is not yet available on our platform, we invite you to contact us to study your request. We will be able to inform you if we already have plans to open a project in the requested region and on which schedule we expect to make it available. Also, we can, within a reasonable time, open a new project on request in the event that your funding objective is sufficient for the opening of a planting site.

3.04 - What is your planting method? At Tree-Nation we do not have just one planting method as we believe it is important to adapt to local specifications and promote various planting techniques. In details: There exists a wide range of planting techniques. Some, very established, coming from the wood industry, often focused on results and survival rate, while some others will focus on natural selection or preserving the genetic patrimony of a local strain.
-
3.05 - Do you provide maintenance for the trees and for how long?Trees receive the required maintenance and care to help them grow healthy. However project management techniques vary for each project. In details: Depending on the projects and the species, there is more or less maintenance to be carried out to guarantee the trees survival. We put most focus in the first 2 years where tree growth and survival is more challenging, and usually replant when needed. In some very low-cost projects however it is more economical to perform no maintenance but to systematically plant extra trees in order to guarantee a certain quantity of trees to reach adulthood.
-
3.06 - Are the projects certified? We have both certified and non-certified projects. Each type has its own set of benefits. By no means do we consider a non-certified project as lower quality. These are just 2 different and valid strategies for planting trees. In details: Tree-Nation combines its own set of CO2 measurement tools complemented with third-party verification and certification standards to meet the highest CO2 offset requirements. This FAQ focuses on certifications. Why certify Third-party CO2 and forest management certifications add a second layer of guarantee, external to Tree-Nation, for maximum transparency.

3.07 - When is the planting season of a project? Each project has a specific nursery season and planting season. It is usually directly related to the rainy season in the region of the plantation. In most projects, the best moment to plant trees is at the beginning of the rainy season in order to provide as much water as possible to the seedlings during their first months after transplant. If you’d like to find the exact planting season of a project it’s very easy:

3.08 - How can I be sure that you have enough capacity for the species I choose? From the "project" page, you can consult the list of available species. You will find the availability of each species very easily. Click on any species A species window will appear. In the green bar you can see how many trees are available for this species. We call this the species "stock". How it works The stocks of species are updated automatically and instantly each time a citizen funds a tree.
-
3.09 - Who owns the trees from your projects? Not you, nor Tree-Nation but local small land owners. In details: Using the Tree-Nation platform to plant trees is understood as an action to protect the environment and therefore does not grant any right of ownership, disposition or use of the trees. The owner of the planting site is the owner of the trees. In every project a local structure (usually a NGO) will work with local communities to help them plant trees on their land.
-
3.10 - Shouldn't the local planter choose the species instead of me?When you plant or offer a tree you can decide which species you want to plant. But you are only deciding from a certain selection of trees that we know we will plant. Ultimately the species selection is done by reforestation experts. In details: It may sound weird that on Tree-Nation our users can decide which species to plant instead of leaving this delicate task to reforestation experts. Well this is because there is a trick!
-
3.11 - What is the difference between “trees funded” and “trees planted”?When we refer to a tree being "planted" we mean this tree has been physically planted. When we refer to a tree being "funded" we mean that we received the adequate funds to plant it. As you may imagine the timing for a tree to be funded and planted is quite different. We try to be sharp in what we do and not mix one thing for another. We realize providing more information and details sometimes creates more confusion and we know that other platforms do not bother to provide such a level of detail.
-
3.12 - When will my tree be planted? In most of our reforestation projects, we plant the trees with respect to local seasons. There is a good time of the year to plant trees imposed by Nature and we certainly respect it to ensure the best possible growth of the trees. This moment of the year depends of the planting project and the climate that regulates it. A few species can be planted all year long and are therefore an exception to this rule.
-
3.13 - How can I follow the progress of my trees?Your forest has a specific section designed for this: the forest Updates section. In details: Your forest update For every plantation project, frequent updates and articles are posted on the project Updates section. Those updates are then replicated to your own forest Updates section, only showing updates for the projects you have trees in. Your forest updates: Project updates You can also access the full list of all updates from all projects by clicking in Projects Updates in the main navigation:
